New York Comic Con, then Italy and Paris
October 9 – October 24, 2026 · By Dorian Takahashi
New York Comic Con for work, then 16 days through Italy and Paris with the family.
Sixteen days, six stops, four of us: my wife, our two daughters, and me.
It started with work. I was in New York for New York Comic Con, and my wife and the girls flew in from Honolulu to meet me. From there we flew overnight to Naples and spent the rest of the trip as a family.
The route
- New York (Oct 9–12): New York Comic Con.
- Naples (Oct 13–15): Pompeii and the historic center.
- Rome (Oct 15–18): by train from Naples. The Colosseum, the Forum, and the Vatican.
- Venice (Oct 18–20): by train from Rome, then a water taxi to the hotel.
- Disneyland Paris (Oct 20–21): flew from Venice to Paris, one night and two park days.
- Paris (Oct 21–24): the Eiffel Tower, the Seine, and the Louvre, then home to Honolulu.
How we travel with kids
We keep the touring to about three hours a day, with a long lunch and hotel downtime in the afternoon. We book connecting rooms or two-bedroom suites so everyone has space and enough bathrooms. For the big sites, like Pompeii, the Colosseum, the Vatican, and the Louvre, we use private, family-focused guides.
Where we stayed
The Dominick
Great location, great doorman, dated room, and a front desk that's all about the upsell. Probably wouldn't go back.
De Bonart Naples
Definitely not a five-star hotel. Small room, no help with bags, and maintenance walking in without knocking with our kids inside. We'd never go back.
Hotel de la Ville, Rome
Service was a 15 out of 10, by far the best I've had at almost any hotel. Amazing doormen, concierge, food, and staff.
Danieli, Venezia, A Four Seasons Hotel
Beautiful hotel, really nice room, amazing rooftop restaurant, great location. The service was the problem. I wouldn't go back.
Disneyland Hotel, Disneyland Paris
Didn't have the Disney service. We should have stayed in Paris and gotten a driver.
Shangri-La Paris
Everything was amazing, and they didn't make me feel out of place in jeans and a T-shirt.
