Same jeans, two very different hotels

By Dorian Takahashi · November 2, 2026

On the same trip in October, I stayed at two of the best-known hotels in Europe, dressed the same way at both: jeans and a T-shirt.

At the Danieli in Venice, it felt like the staff didn’t want to help us. Our room barely got serviced. At one point we didn’t even have body wash.

A few days later at the Shangri-La in Paris, everything was amazing. They treated our kids great, and they never once made me feel out of place.

Same guy. Same clothes. That’s why every review on this site has a score for how they treated me.
